Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare Services, D Randeep told TOI that the first death due to H3N2 virus has been reported in Karnataka. The deceased has been identified as an 87-year-old man, who was admitted to the hospital on February 24.

The commissioner said that the patient had pre-existing hypertension, asthma and acute kidney injury and the lab results confirmed H3N2 virus on March 3, two days after his death. According to the report, the patient was having fever, cough and shortness of breath.
